Synth Music

I've always had a fascination for 'synth' music, being inspired by 70s Prog Rock and listening to hours of organ music in an empty church during my years as a chorister.

I do not play the piano or read music. My composing is primarily finding the notes that fit the sound. Being a non-player, I have the freedom to digitally doodle on a midi-keyboard and record anything decent that comes out. That makes for some surprisingly good compositions, although fairly rudimentary without digital effects and processing.

I love Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, Rick Wakeman (Yes), Jonn Serrie and countless other modern artists you won't ever hear of, all favourites.

My style is primarily spacey background drone with ornamental embellishments, either breathy synth or uillean pipes, or something somewhere between.  I don't do percussive elements, ethereal phrases merging into the next.

My synth music is more about how I feel about the world rather than my introspective fingerstyle guitar.
